DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
Enriching life through Art
Since our last Tableau , the Beaverbrook Art Gallery has completed a strategic planning review. The strategic plan covers the period from 2008 to 2010 and was developed as a follow-up to the Gallery’s 1994 strategic plan and, more recently, is a result of the Gallery’s 2006 invitation to participate in the New Brunswick Foundation for the Arts, Arts and Heritage Stabilization Program.
To provide common values that offer inspiration for our operating principles, a new vision statement was adopted.
“The Beaverbrook Art Gallery Enriches Life Through Art” will guide, support, and enhance this fine institution. We will strive to bring art and our community together as we promote the Gallery as an active, interactive, and dynamic place for learners and art lovers of all ages. The study concentrated on the following: governance, stakeholders analysis, strategic audience and market development, program analysis and evaluation, infrastructure, human resources, and financial planning.
An operational plan will be developed in each area of the study to face the Gallery’s many challenges and to capture our opportunities. It is critically important to the Gallery and to the success of the plan that we play more fully the role of a provincial art gallery. This will be elaborated on after Year One of the plan. Of paramount importance, also, is the securing of additional operating and endowment funds. Only this will enable the Gallery to be the provincial art gallery of New Brunswick. KCI is currently concluding a feasibility study for the Gallery in a campaign-planning study assessment. The planning process is now in place for a national fundraising campaign which will achieve financial stability for the future.
The Gallery is grateful to the New Brunswick Foundation for the Arts for its support with the Strategic Plan and for accepting the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in their Arts and Heritage Stabilization program. The program, a partnership between the Government of Canada, the Province of New Brunswick, and the private sector, encourages the development of healthy sustainable arts and heritage organizations that focus on achieving their mission and their community service goals.
The Foundation will provide the Gallery with $100,000 in working capital over the three years of the program. In addition, the Gallery will receive a grant of $25,000 under the Technical Assistance Program for marketing and promotion around the 2009 celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.
The Beaverbrook Art Gallery looks forward to serving the community to the very best of its ability in the spirit of artistic excellence and stewardship.
It is indeed time for our Gallery to step proudly into the future.
With good wishes,
Bernard Riordon
