1959: Yves St. Laurent was hired by Dior, the Quarrymen were on the verge of becoming the Beatles, the Mercury 7 were announced... and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery was opened. 60 years ago, with a collection including works by Salvador Dali and JMW Turner, Sir Max Aitken founded the Gallery that our community has grown to treasure. On October 19, 2019, join us as we celebrate the Gallery's first 60 years, and the 60 yet to come.
Celebrate the past and embrace the future at Gala 60!
♦ The evening:
This very special 60th anniversary will be celebrated on Saturday, October 19th.
The Gala begins at 7:00 pm with a look to the future: the exclusive preview opening of the Marion McCain Exhibition of Contemporary Atlantic Art, celebrating some of the finest artists currently working in New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada.
With an artistic eye fixed on the future, the evening will also provide a look to the past: time-capsule photos from our opening year, signature vintage cocktails, a scotch tasting, fashion and art all geared to transport you back to 1959.
Please note: the Gallery will be closed to the public during the day of October 19. Ticketholders for Gala 60 are welcome to arrive at 7:00 pm through the side pavilion entrance.
