Illustrated talk: Janice Wright Cheney, Rewilding the Beaverbrook Art Gallery: Putting the Beaver back in the Brook

May 23: 12:00- 1:00 pm. Inspired by the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Beaverbrook Art Gallery, this talk will begin by examining the historical, cultural and ecological importance of the beaver (Castor Canadensis). Images from contemporary art and current environmental research will illustrate the complicated relationship Canadians have with this iconic rodent. The artist will discuss her residency project (ReWild) and ongoing studio practice as a call for conservation and rewilding. Can we put the beaver back in the brook?


Thursday night art class: Thursday, 7:00- 9:00 pm. All skill levels are welcome, ages 16+. Cost is free for members, $15 per session for non-members; materials are included. Please register by calling 458-2028

May 23: Nikita Smith will lead participants in creative explorations of the Canadian wilderness with inspiration from the art on display. Participants will experiment with different materials, moods, and colors in hopes of cultivating their interest in a subject that has inspired Canadian artists for generations. Art for Tots: Fridays from 10:00- 10:45 am - Children ages 2-5 and their parents participate in fun art games, hands-on activities, and storytelling. Cost is free for members, $10 per session for non-members; materials are included. Please register by calling 458-2028.

May 24: Wax resist patterns


60th Anniversary art workshop, Jennifer Pazienza: Poet-Tree and the art of Gordon Dunphy

May 25: 1:00- 4:00 pm. Registration required. In celebration of the Gallery’s diamond anniversary, the Beaverbrook presents a special series of artist-led workshops. Through an exploration of different materials, participants in this workshop are invited to recreate the spirit of Gordon Dunphy’s art in their own poetic creations. Weather permitting a portion of this workshop may take us outdoors.

Family Art Day: Bring the whole family to the Gallery’s Family Art Days! This series, offered on the last Sunday of each month, includes musical performances, multiple artist workshops, free admission, and more.
