Fredericton, NB, November 3, 2014 – The summer of 2015 will be a special season at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, welcoming home the often asked about artworks from the touring exhibition Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. More than 75 iconic and favourite artworks will once again grace the walls of the Gallery in a blockbuster presentation occupying the main floor of the Gallery, marking the first time these beloved and significant artworks will be displayed in New Brunswick since their departure at the end of 2012. Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery will open to visitors on May 2nd, 2015 and run until August 23rd, 2015.

Representative of the distinctive quality of the permanent collection, it features 75 historical works of art by world-renowned artists, such as Gainsborough, Reynolds, Constable, Delacroix, Sargent, Sickert, Sisley, Sutherland, Turner, Freud, and Dali, and by seminal artists in the history of Canadian art, such as Krieghoff, Morrice, Harris, and Carr. According to Beaverbrook Art Gallery Director/CEO and Chief Curator Terry Graff, "This exhibition represents the crème de la crème of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s permanent collection, which many consider Lord Beaverbrook’s greatest legacy and New Brunswick’s greatest cultural asset. Like all collections, it tells stories and paints a compelling portrait of the personality and life of the collector, arguably one of Canada’s greatest art patrons, if not its greatest. Like all collections, it tells stories and paints a compelling portrait of the personality and life of the collector. It is surprising that Hollywood has not as yet made a movie of Lord Beaverbrook’s epic life."

To mark the occasion, the Gallery’s presentation will be enhanced and augmented with additional masterworks from the Gallery’s collection that were not able to tour with the exhibition, as well as related sketches and studies. To further enhance the exhibition, a new audio tour will be available for visitors, and a slate of special programming will be scheduled during the summer season. Details of these special events and new programming celebrating these artworks will be announced in the coming months.

These 75 key artworks of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s collection have been met with great fanfare and tremendous reception at five venues so far, and will continue to another two following their home presentation. Most recently, when the exhibition opened at the Winnipeg Art Gallery alongside a Dalí exhibition, it saw a new record set for an opening at the WAG, with over 4,000 people in attendance over its first 24 hours.

The Gallery looks forward to welcoming visitors to join us in celebration of Lord Beaverbrook’s vision of bringing significant works of art to the people of New Brunswick, and in celebration of the rich artistic heritage housed in New Brunswick’s provincial art gallery.
