Position profile:
Reporting to the Business Services Manager, the Accountant is responsible for managing the financial operations of the art gallery. This role involves completing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations. The Accountant plays a crucial role in maintaining the gallery's financial health and supporting its overall operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Record Keeping and Transactions:
- Record and process financial transactions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare regular financial reports.
- Analyze financial data to provide insights and recommendations.
- Complete budgets, cashflows and reports for grants, special projects and initiatives.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the development and monitoring of the gallery's budget.
- Prepare financial forecasts and projections to aid in strategic decision-making.
- Accounts Receivable and Payable:
- Manage accounts receivable.
- Process accounts payable.
- Prepare and file tax returns.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and reporting requirements.
- Financial Audits:
- Collaborate with external auditors during financial audits.
- Financial Controls:
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the gallery’s assets and ensure accuracy of financial records.
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
- Assist in evaluating the financial viability of new projects or initiatives.
- Financial Policies and Procedures:
- Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Payroll Management:
- Process payroll accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with payroll tax regulations.
- Banking and Cash Management:
- Manage bank accounts, reconcile bank statements, and monitor cash flow.
- Initiate and track wire transfers, deposits, and withdrawals as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree or CPA is an asset).
- Proven experience as an accountant, preferably in an art gallery, museum, or cultural institution.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Quickbooks online) and financial management tools, as well as Salesforce and Office 365.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and taxation.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and relevant financial regulations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Fluency in both English and French is an asset.
- Valid Criminal Record Check, upon request.
